I watched my mom build this school with more love than I’ve ever seen anyone put into anything else. I’ve seen people come and have their families get closer together. I’ve also seen my mom deal with people who are being unkind or dishonest and she continues to love and serve.
I have been looking for a better educational opportunity for my children than what is offered in public schools for a very long time. Homeschooling didn’t work with our family schedule, and my children were struggling with being bullied, sexual harassment and neglectful or unorganized teachers in the public school system. Since we began attending AFE in August 2020, we have been so grateful to have found a solid educational program as well as teachers that are dedicated to mentoring children and encouraging their development in every area of life. My children always got good grades in public school, and followed good behavior practices, but since attending AFE their leadership skills, critical thinking, and knowledge have expanded and they LOVE going to school every day. We are so grateful for AFE!
I’m giving a 5-star review because of the difference I’ve seen in my grandchildren and their parents. The parenting principles learned from books that recommended by the school have made a wonderful difference in their home. My SIL and daughter are responsive rather than reactive, and it has been remarkable to see the way the children are responding. They are responding with responsibility and accepting accountability. During their free time at home the children often spend it reading, or learning about a new interest. Don’t get me wrong. No one is perfect and skirmishes still happen, but the resolutions are often handled by the children, or with minimal responsive adult interaction. My daughter did not learn this in our home, unfortunately. I have seen a wonderful change in their home since becoming associated with AFE. I have been very impressed by the importance of the family that is supported here. I don’t have personal experience with the curriculum, but I can say that from what I’ve observed, this quote from Albert Einstein reflects what is happening there: ‘I never teach my pupils, I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn.’ I do see a love of learning in my grandchildren. When even a 10-year-old boy, who wasn’t happy in the beginning about limited/no television, can come to his mom a few days later and list the benefits he’s experienced, I definitely have to attribute some of that to his education system.
I had the privilege of being introduced to the owner, Kathryn, several years back. I noticed right away that she had a gift with people. This gift of helping people see their amazing qualities and then building them up is why she is such an amazing leader of a school. What better way to help teach children, then to be able to build up and teach their parents how to then build up and mentor their own children. I have only ever seen good fruits come from Kathryn- kindness, love, integrity, hard work, and a passion for helping parents and children connect on a deeper level.
